Hello Oakdale Families & Friends,

This has been a great week to be a Roadrunner, with the beginning to Term 3. Thank you to everyone for helping students returning to in-person learning make a smooth transition.  Online students, please note online learning kits are available now; please stop by the main for your kit.

This month our CEO trait of the month is Grit.   Grit is a student’s ability to “stick with it.”  Our students at Oakdale have shown Grit in so many ways through learning new tasks, trying something they’ve never done before, and continually trying to do their best.  I am constantly amazed at what they accomplish each and every day.    Would you like to continue having discussions on grit at home? Encourage your student to replace statements such as “I can’t” or “this is too hard” with “I will keep trying” or “I won’t give up yet.”

“Grit is passion, perseverance for very long-term goals, stamina,” Angela Duckworth.

Important things to know

Measure your Mood, Improve your Wellness – Free Emotional Wellness Screening for students ages 10-18.  Do you have worries about your child’s social and emotional wellness? Mental health screenings can be as important as physical check-ups, and in Canyons District, there are resources to help. On Monday, March 15, at Mount Jordan Middle School, Canyons’ social and emotional learning team is sponsoring free in-person and virtual wellness screenings and consultations for students ages 10-18. The meetings are for 30 minutes and are scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. by appointment only. Space is limited. Upon registering, families will be asked to complete a screening tool. During the consultations, licensed professionals will discuss available community resources to meet the needs of your child. Please see this registration link and the flyer below for more details.

Lost and Found

Outside our office, we have a coat rack for Coats, Jackets, Hats, Scarves, and Gloves that have lost their owners.  If you’re looking for missing items, check the lost of found.

5th Grade Maturation

While growing up can be hard, talking about it needn’t be.  To help families rock “the talk” — even in this pandemic year — Canyons School District is offering its popular maturation program online.

From Wednesday, Feb. 24 through July 31, fifth-grade students and their parents will be able to access the program online at no charge through a password-protected link. The presentations are conducted by professional speaker Carrie Ann Kemp who has been educating and entertaining young audiences, and their parents, for 20 years.

Through a time-limited license, fifth-grade families will access the programs for boys and girls through a password-protected link. The program aims to provide consistent, sensitive, and approved instruction districtwide. Versions are available in English and Spanish.

Detailed instructions for accessing the courses have been emailed to all fifth-grade parents and guardians.

Families with questions are encouraged to reach out to the Main Office.
