Cell Phone Policy

Oakdale Elementary Cell Phone and Technology Policy 2022-2023

CSD Electronic Device Policy

Oakdale students may use the office phone in case of an emergency with a note from their teacher.  Parents may also call the office and request to speak to their student.  We ask that this be used sparingly so as not to disturb instruction.  Parents may also call the office and request a message to be sent to their child.   Students may bring cell phones to school only for the PURPOSE OF SAFETY before and after school.  They are to be turned off and placed in backpacks. Smartwatches are also to be turned off during the day.  Cell phones are not allowed to be used on school grounds during the school day unless given specific permission by an administrator usually as part of a 504 plan or IEP for a medical reason with a doctor’s note.  Possession of a cell phone is a privilege that may be forfeited by any student who uses the phone inappropriately.  The school will not be responsible for preventing theft, loss of, or damage to cell phones brought to school.  In addition, if the phone is out during the day, it will be taken away and held in the office.  The Parents/Guardians may be asked to pick up the cell phone.

CELL PHONE/ELECTRONIC DEVICES:

Cell phones and electronic devices may not be used for any reason at school.  This means; not as a camera, calculator, web browser, game player, music player, etc.

If there is an emergency and the student’s only way to contact someone is via their cell phone (or watch) they must come to the office to use the phone.

  • 1st offense:
    • A cell phone is released to the student at the end of the day. The student is responsible for picking it up. The school will contact the parent.
  • 2nd Offense:
    • The cell phone is released to the parent only. The school will contact the parent.
  • 3rd offense:
    • Parent/admin meeting with additional discussion and appropriate consequences.
