Our 5th-grade students at Oakdale had a fantastic experience last week performing as part of the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program & Arts Works for Kids Legislative Dinner.
The event was hosted by: Jim and Krista Sorenson, Joe & Kathleen Sorenson, and Tim & Joan Fenton.
Our BTS music teacher, Marie Smith, did a fantastic job integrating singing, dancing, and playing instruments into our students’ American history knowledge. Mrs. Cline’s class presented a musical version of Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride. Mrs. Bishop’s class sang about an Irish immigrant’s experience building the railway in the 1840s. Ms. Yates’ class created a drum circle inspired by an all-Black regiment that defended the Union in the Civil War. All three classes closed the evening with the patriotic song, “America” (My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.), which ended with a standing ovation.
Oakdale 5th graders have had an experience they will be speaking about for years to come. Below are some highlights from the event. Great job 5th graders!
