Dear Oakdale Families,

Welcome back to school!  I trust you have all had a fantastic summer, I know our family did, but it’s time to return to the school routine.  The School Community Council, a group of faculty and parents, is ready to get back to work, focusing on the academic needs of our students and finding ways to address those needs.  The Legislature has charged SCCs to develop the School Improvement Program, Trust Lands Program, the K-3 Reading Initiative, and the Safe Walking Route, as well as appropriating funds associated with those programs.  If you are interested in getting involved in the SCC this year, please contact Julie Clawson:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You may have attended the first annual Arts Night at the end of the school year, ‘The Artist in Me’.  This fabulous event was sponsored by the SCC and we have already begun planning for our 2nd annual Arts Night, to be held on May 19.  There has been a wonderful focus on the arts the past few years; we have seen so much support for the music program, including the orchestra and band, as well as the studio kids drama club.  We hope to expand to also include more visual arts and dance.  More volunteers are needed for the Arts Night to help on various committees, including food, silent auction, and as Arts Coordinators.  Please contact Stacey Timmerman, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Some of the things we’d like to do this year include starting a foreign language club and a chess club at the school.  Oakdale will not become a language immersion school but we still feel learning a language is vital in today’s world, and learning it at a young age promotes more success in mastering the language.  If you know someone who would be interested in coaching the chess club, please contact me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Regards,

Julie Clawson
